A Metronome of Worship
Real worship is...wild-eyed abandonment. Real worship is...noticing how astoundingly brilliant God is and then taking the time to tell Him so. True worship, the real thing, is simple – it’s just what LOVE is like. Let worship in Spirit and in Reality bloom in all our hearts...for the Worthy Lamb!
A brother talking to God about worship: "Holy Father, there was a time when, from border to border, Your People were a people of song and worship and music and praise. It was a very natural thing to them. It was part of their culture that You had embedded in them. We live in a society where people's souls have dried up and there is no music in them anymore and they are not apt to worship in a profound or external way. The songs don't so much move through their heads and hearts all day long because they are busy thinking about 'important things' in this great industrial and information age. We just churn on meaningless, dry, black and white things.
It's our prayer, Father, that You would restore in us, in Your people around the world, particularly in those that are fully devoted to You, that you restore the life and the greenery and the fragrance of worship and of music so that we would be a worshipping people, that our minds would not be consumed with the information age or the industrial age, but that you would recreate in us the 'worship age', that Your people would be distinctive in that way and the joy that comes from that; the aroma of conversation and speech with one another and with co-workers and those around us, that that music would be intermingled with our answers to the questions that they are asking or the things that we are trying to sell or whatever it is that our job is comprised of. That worship would flow out from between the words without anything that they could hear with their ears but they would sense with their souls. Father, make Your People a Worshipping People again. Let it bloom again within Your People in a special way. Let our days be awakened by that and the nights be ushered into sleep with that. Let it be part of our heart beating; let that heartbeat not be just simply pumping blood, but let it be a metronome of worship."
"Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise Him. Praise the Lord with the harp; make music to Him on the ten-string lyre, Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all He does. The Lord loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of His unfailing love. By the word of the Lord were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of His mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; and He puts the deep into storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord; let the people of the world revere Him. For He spoke, and it came to be; He commanded, and it stood firm. The Lord foils the plans of the nations; He thwarts the purposes of the peoples. But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever; the purposes of His heart through all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He chose for His inheritance. From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind; from His dwelling place He watches all who live on the earth - He who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do. No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; - despite all its great strength it cannot save. But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear Him, on those whose hope is in His unfailing love. To deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. We wait in hope for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name. May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in You." (Ps. 33)
