Does Jesus Exist for Humans—or Humans for Jesus?

Goal: to be happy—or to make Jesus happy?

4/4/2026

It makes such a difference when we take the second position.

In the first scenario, we can make peace with ritual, tradition, and sentimental brain-dead symbolism and attendance. No risk. Just warm fuzzies and safety. Very little God except feelings, but also very little satanic opposition, if any.

In the second scenario, we fight for every inch and risk everything, with no safety.

Very important: when you watch religious organizations pumping gas for the poor, feeding the poor or singing and singing some more, what’s so wrong with that?

If feeling good is our goal, with Jesus as a motto, a song, a belief system, or a weekly meeting or two, then anything that accomplishes “that”—is “good enough.”

If instead, as Paul said, “we make it our goal to please HIM (2 Corinthians 5:9)”—then we will find out what pleases the Lord. I’m going to guess, Revelation 3, Jesus puking is not evidence of HIM “feeling good” about Sunday morning attendance and very little more Life or relationship than that, for “90%.” Hebrews 3:12-13 is a COMMAND, just like all of the other Commands of God. The mega-“Pastor” (shame on him for allowing himself to be called this) who told me 10% of his congregation was great with God as far as he knew, wasn’t very far off from George Barna saying that 9% of American Christianity actually is committed to living that way.
