(2 Samuel 5:4-5; 1 Kings 2:11, Exodus 30:12) Why did David want to take a census? At age SEVENTY, 970 BC—he wanted to know about his legacy, his power, his reputation, his accomplishments. Seventy thousand people were killed by God, out of God’s indignation at David’s arrogance and insecurity.
