Averting Disaster

For young and old

7/17/2001

To saints in a particular city, but I was encouraged to send it on for other’s sake too....

Good morning.... I had a “bad dream” a couple of hours ago about a couple of your young ones. No names, no faces, but tragic. Will you allow the dream to come true? WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO * MAKE CERTAIN * that your children are not “meeting people,” or seeing things that no eye should see—ON THE INTERNET? Years ago we took drastic measures (setting up a proxy server that all internet flows through) here to virtually eliminate the possibility of accidents or temptations destroying our children’s lives on the Internet.

How about you? Have you done the equivalent of leaving broken glass in the bathtub for your children to step on—by not taking drastic measures to MAKE CERTAIN they are not being harmed by the Internet? And, I don’t just mean the very young ones.... Assume NOTHING. “We just have to trust them to not step on the broken glass we left in the bathtub.” Wrong. Worldly wisdom: unspiritual, from below. Follow this, and unnecessary tragedy is at hand, with poor leadership bearing the bulk of the judgment for setting up the “little ones” for scarring disaster. God’s Command: “Make no PROVISION to fulfill the lust of the flesh.”

I don’t dream often. Thought I’d better pass this on.

Love always,

Re: Averting Disaster, For Young and Old

Hi. I know there may be many people who have had very similar experiences, but since mine just happened yesterday, I thought I would reply to this message. I was on a popular “christian-based” homeschool site where I order supplies. I noticed that there were several places on their site and I hadn’t looked before. One was listed “humor” (which now I know better), so I clicked on it and there were several topics of jokes. I clicked again and was very surprised at what kind of joke was on there, certainly nothing I should be looking at, and I looked up at who posted it and it was the person who owns the homeschool company! The joke was such that it would make the imaginations of a person (especially male) fly (or sink extremely low). Even if it is on a “christian” site there could be all kinds of things on there. I now know that even to let a young person on such a site to look for materials could be very dangerous. I will most certainly be wiser about this too. (ca)
