The Kingdom Is Within You

3/15/2002

If you just take the words that he said at face value, they can be interpreted at least two different ways. I think it would be pretty important to hone in on what the right way is to take that. If you look at it as an external thing of--“This is going to be great! This is going to be fun.” Important things to do... Important places to go... Important things to say... things to feel... things to know...relationships and all that kind of stuff--you’re really missing the point. Because as God Himself said: “The Kingdom is neither here, nor there, it’s within you.” Meaning, that all that external stuff, if that’s what you’re after, you can have some semblance of all of that, and still miss the whole point. Still blow it big time by not dealing with your own character.

Being around it and knowing all about it means nothing if your character is still shallow and foolish because you didn’t deal with the little things in your own personal life. You’ve got to deal with the stuff of the heart-‐your own foolish desires, and your own shallowness, and your own nonsense, the junk that’s inside of you. If you gloss over all of that and don’t deal with that and just go on to all the “relational stuff,” and all the “Biblical things,” “this” instead of “that,” and knowing about “that”, knowing these verses and these truths, and “Isn’t that great!?” If you miss what’s on the inside of you because you never take the time to stop and look at God square in the eye and deal with your own junk, then the rest of it is superficial and it will crumble. You’ve got nothing if it isn’t born here, (within you) first and foremost. You’ve got nothing. The cusp of something fabulous is here, which is good news and bad news! It’s bad news if you’re intending it to be something external and not willing to pay a price in your own soul, your own heart, your own cross. But the good news is it doesn’t require anything on the outside, which means it’s accessible to every single person that’s ever heard Jesus’ name.

The really big stuff that you’re on the cusp of is right here, and nobody can ever take that away from you, if it’s the real thing. And you’ll never have it if it’s not the real thing. It will feel like it, look like it, you’ll think about it, you’ll see it, and there will be external things that are fun and good and biblical, and all that stuff. But you’ll never have the real thing, unless you deal with it here first. And that’s something just you and God can do. Nobody can do that for you. There isn’t enough influence anyone can have. There aren’t enough things you can hear or know. There’s not enough accountability in the galaxy to make anybody have it here. That’s something between you and God, and you’ve got to get that right in order to have any of the other things for Real. It’s accessible to everyone; that’s the good news. It’s not dependent on any circumstances at all anywhere. The circumstances take care of themselves.
