The "Fool's" Psalm 119
Want to live a life of perpetual spiritual “durrrrrr” and make one boneheaded decision after another, reaping the consequences in your own life and impacting others around you? Then pick a word from the following list: entertainment, hobbies, news, shopping, resentments, self-pity, sports, daydreams, clothing, worry, career ambition, home decorating, vanity, self...or any similar word of your choice. Now fill in the blanks with your chosen word in the “Fool’s Psalm 119” below:
“Oh, how I love ______! I meditate on it all day long. Thoughts of _______ are always with me and make me more foolish than my enemies. I have less insight than anyone I know, for I meditate on _____. I have less understanding than everyone else, because when I do hear God’s word, I don’t actually do anything about it.”
Or you can stick with the original Psalm 119 wording if you want to choose an alternative ending to your story!
“Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. Your commands are always with me and make me wiser than my enemies. I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes. I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts.” Psalm 119:97-100
Each of us has to choose which version of Psalm 119 we are going to live by. Choose wisely! God’s Family is for those who live by the original version.
“Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.”
