Jesus—Our Good and True King
12/31/1998
A riddle : ) What makes a king “good?” There have been many kings, in many places through time. Most were barely noteworthy; few are recognized by name after their death. A truly “good” king is one who has the means and uses them most effectively to sustain, enhance and enlarge his kingdom. He has the capacity in every form (physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual) to provide for those in his care and see that their lives are not mere sustenance, but rather rich in quality and future. He uses his role for expanding, protecting, and improving everything (and everyone: )) in his domain. Furthermore, such a king is greatly adored in return. No one wanting to live wants to overthrow such a ruler. They want only to follow him with undying love and allegiance. And they all hope that his days will go on and on. His kingdom is a place where sincere hearts, weary from hungering, but not knowing how to feed themselves or each other now find within his walls food and strength and healing and hope that they could never find anywhere else. Because their king is truly “good.” There is one such King whose days will never end... He always has been and always will be... Alive, True, Unchanging, and Trustworthy. The beginning, the end, and forever on the Throne. —ls
