Our Kingdom Is Not of THIS World

Hey, I was wondering if you could help me work through something and get a better perspective on it? :) For the past couple days with the start of the war I thought it would be interesting to learn more about the countries involved in the war and learn a little about the technology aspect of it. Part of me thinks it would be interesting just from what I have heard about the bombs they use today and how accurate they are and that they can fire them from so far away and it still be accurate. But then part of me thinks that it shouldn’t be interesting because it is war and war is such a nasty thing. I really enjoy learning about science because I love to marvel at how God put things together and see how orderly He is with everything and I just don’t see how I can gain anything from learning about war and yet there is something that seems interesting about the technology. Do you know what I mean? Could you help me work through this?

Hi :) Frankly, I see no reason to “study” the technology of killing machines. Too much time and energy into such things is quite a drain on Spiritual Life. No one needs much of that, for past OR present wars. If comprehending the earthly “shadow” in competitions and wars amongst men -- of “strategy” and “leadership” -- has some value, it is only “some” since pagans are not the mentors of those who “will judge angels.” A little “study” of past or present war could be fine in either case, but our hearts are sensitive “instruments” and easily mis-calibrated when we use them carelessly -- based on our flesh, rather than Godly Wisdom and good governance with self-control. SURELY there are better uses of technology than that of war, creating widows and orphans, and sending to judgment day young men before they have time to repent. You might enjoy a book about how things work -- but if I were you, I’d skip any parts on war machines. Consider even camouflaged “Hummer” jeeps that children may be attracted to. Why not just a good ole fashioned SUV or van instead? WHY mess around with even the trappings of a war machine. The government has the right to do such things (Rom.13 clearly says that “the sword of execution” - Greek - is permitted by God, for the governments of men), but we are NOT to be involved in what God calls for us -- ”civilian affairs” -- if we truly want to “please OUR Commander.” Hope that helps……
