Let's Go! With a Wash Basin and Towel
7/4/2026
It’s probably not what you think. The battle-Him, or Bow-to-Him. Let’s go! With a wash basin and towel.
In the famous song, Battle Hymn of the Republic, the stanza “Christ was born in the lilies” is omitted/changed in most modern versions of the song. “It can be omitted because of song length, but it is also omitted because it is the most offensive stanza of the whole song.”
It is also commonly changed from “die to make men free” to “live to make men free” to make it easier for people to relate to. It was “too militaristic and unsettling,” and they wanted to shift the focus away from martyrdom after the Civil War. “Many ‘churches’ preferred this.”
All of that omitting and shortening was because attenders and clergy just can’t get it. To most of christendom, islam-ism, hinduism, atheism, ritualism, spiritism, catholicism, budd-hism, boredom-ism it’s just another placebo, hiding place, family tradition, just a cultural world religion.
To God, it is not anything like that. Jesus didn’t come to start an alternative world religion, with a different doctrine.
Which opens the Door for atheists and Islam and Gen Z and Hindu and bored—to “seek with all their heart,” the real Deliverer, and unite everything under Him. The difference between culturally westernized or easternized human convenience or ritual or optional religions... Changes everything—but not compromise.
With humbling, shattering glory!
Battle Hymn of the Republic
[Verse]
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword;
His truth is marching on.
[Chorus]
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.
I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps;
They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps;
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps;
His day is marching on.
I have read a fiery gospel writ in burnished rows of steel:
“As ye deal with My contemners, so with you My grace shall deal;
Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with His heel,
Since God is marching on.”
[Chorus]
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.
He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment seat;
O be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet!
Our God is marching on.
In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me;
As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free,
While God is marching on.
He is coming like the glory of the morning on the wave,
He is Wisdom to the mighty, He is Succor to the brave;
So the world shall be His footstool, and the soul of Time His slave,
Our God is marching on.
[Chorus]
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.
