Mary's Heart

1/15/2023

What was Mary’s heart behind the words “may it be done to me according to your word”? Why did God choose HER to birth His Son? What was it about her that God liked?

I think of the faith it must have taken to say those words - “may it be done to me according to your word.” I think of her as a young girl cultivating that faith over her teenage years. I picture her treasuring that faith in her heart, like a little flower she tended and watered every day, knowing one day it would blossom and grow into something beautiful.

I think about the abandoned love it took to open her hands to God like that with the heart of “do whatever you want, God. You are God and I am your servant. I am here for YOU. Do as you please. I am nothing. And you are everything.” She wasn’t looking for something in return. She wasn’t thinking about how it would turn out. She didn’t care how she felt. Or how it would affect her. What she would get out of it or how she would be treated.

She simply GAVE EVERYTHING! She opened her hands and her heart to God in such a simple yet staggeringly beautiful way. She said, “I’m not the important one in this picture. What happens to me doesn’t matter. I’m here for you, God. Do as you will. Use me as you please. I open my hands to you. I give you ALL of me. I’m not saving a little piece for myself. I give you everything. This is about YOU, God. This isn’t about me.”

How beautiful her faith! That faith can be yours as well, if you choose to go there.

Mary’s open-handed, soft, extravagant, abandoned heart—CULTIVATE IT. Sow the seeds. And watch beautiful things GROW!

Willing to give all no matter the cost

Am I going the “merry” way? What’s easy, fun, enjoyable, pain-free? Or the MARY way (ALL of me, no matter the cost, poured out like wine on the altar for Him, nothing held back, “Be it done to me according to your Word, oh Lord”)

We are unworthy servants

What Jesus said in Luke 17:10 is very much like what Mary said: “be it done to me according to your word”.

What Jesus was saying was you don’t deserve credit for ANYTHING.

How do you increase your faith? Stop looking for credit for how well you are doing! You are just an unprofitable servant doing your duty.

That’s the Mary heart. If there’s a place for the Messiah living inside of you like he was literally in Mary aka Mariam, it’ll be because you’re not looking for credit or having expectations for yourself. Just lay down your life fully as Jesus said in the scripture. Ironically, it’s an answer to the question: how do I have faith, what does it mean to have and increase faith? Do you want that really, says Yesu? Then… DON’T TRY TO GET RECOGNITION OR INCLUSION OR SATISFACTION OR COMPARE TO OTHERS.
