No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

I was thinking on these scriptures in Rom 15 this morning...
“We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: ‘The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.’”
It seemed odd at first to reference and link a scripture about being ‘insulted as Christ was insulted’ with an encouragement to live an unselfish, patient, self-denying life. Maybe, because true sacrificial living speaking and living the “truth that can make the weak neighbor strong” will yield more insults than applause?
