Paratrooper

perched on the edge

looking down

terrifying

sky full of fire

chaos rings in your ears

over all the crashing

the voice of your commander

you’ve resisted a long time

all He’s ever done for you is good

tired of fighting him

you turn to him and smile

He smiles back, and you are filled

the jump is easier than imagined

though the sky is full of danger

you are miraculously safe

the fall is peaceful and gentle

feet hit the ground

an army around you

the commander at the head

the war has raged for millennia

you have just joined the ranks

the fight for your commander

it’s hard to hear His voice over the chaos

but it’s there

if you stop long enough to listen

instead of turning in all directions

trying to make sense of the chaos around you

the army around you moves as one

commander at the head

He goes and you follow

anywhere, anytime

you are His
