Question About Having Children
7/20/2001
Hi, I was wondering if you may have some insight into something my wife and I have pondered for some time, it’s in regards to not having more children of our own flesh. In NO WAY do we have any regrets for the children we have, but do feel that He may want us to venture out to adopt a parentless child at some point... though we have no idea when this will be. Has anyone there or anyone you know had surgery to prevent having more of their own children?
We are really on the fence with this and could use some help in perhaps seeing more clearly.
love,
Hey : ). There have been a few folks (which is obviously a small percentage, if viewed that way) who have had Spiritual reasons for having surgery to curtail future pregnancies. Basically, it has been with those folks who were certain as they could be, with confirmations in the Saints or somehow, that what God had for THEM to do specifically in His Kingdom would be diminished or harmed by additional children. In other words, the sense is that SEEKING GOD about how many children to have—is Spiritually superior to just ignoring the law of sowing and reaping and natural cause and effect—and assuming that as many children as you can have is obviously how many God wants you to have. That is presumptuous and shallow. Seeking God day by day about all things—such as whether additional natural born children is what HE wants for you, and then responding accordingly to Him (rather than things left to the sloppiness of “whatever happens must be God’s Will”)—is the Way of a Disciple who is Alive to Him. So, perhaps that will give you a bit of Freedom to seek Him about your decision. : )
In His Love,
