"Reckoning" Wrecks Satan! Power for Transformation

7/11/2025

Being freed from the power of sin is the same process as being freed from the penalty of sin: by faith from first to last.

By totally abandoning into Jesus, you got your one hundred on the test. Overcoming specific sins is the same: just as surely as you overcome the penalty of sin by faith, you trust and look to Jesus to overcome the power of sin by faith.

Reckon” is a legal term. Faith is believing that overcoming the power of sin in your life is also already done! Reckoning is “unshakable legal certainty based on God, not you.” It is spiritual warfare to “reckon,” knowing that experiencing or feeling differently on some timetable is not faith at all. Faith is knowing that for His sake and in His timing and for His reasons, you trust and know that you will be able to take those spikes and pound them into satan’s coffin.

Despair, guilt, fear, anger, jealousy, comparison, mind blocking—these will get you nowhere against sin.

Willpower can sometimes get you a little ways towards the goal—but not with God as your companion. You’re on your own.

Trauma, anguish, loss and consequences can last for a little while—but then the motives and incentives and memories start to get vague and foggy. Then things begin to slip back into the old habits of sin, without a great recognition lingering about why you need to stop or how you could ever possibly stop the sin.

But the power of God is unleashed when we “reckon”—when we face failures and habits and pain and temptation and sin with the absolute certainty of God’s conquering power at work within us already! No fear. He did not give us the spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind... And of faith and trust and certainty that God will work every Spike satan throws at us which we catch with faith for the purpose of pounding into satan's coffin unto God’s ultimate victory as we “strengthen our brothers and sisters” with what we have learned and overcome for His namesake and by His Spirit!

There are no time limits on our faith, or it’s not faith at all. No conditions. No demands of a “genie in the bottle”— like “getting the parking space closest to the front door at Walmart,” or some spectacular, instantaneous healing or else “I give up.”

ALL things are for His glory, and are faith from first to last!

Justification, salvation, clothed in Christ, 100% on the final exam granted in advance... is by grace, through faith, and that not of yourself, lest any man boast. Faith is submission and full trust in Jesus and God’s character, rather than our experience or our feeling, or even our performance per se if we are full on His. Guess what? All of that is also true for sanctification, plus one, plus one, plus one into the full measure of the stature of Christ, day by day, unto the Full Day. Glorification, seeing Him face-to-face, 1 Corinthians 15, yes. That also.

“For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.” (Romans 6:5-14 NKJV)

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

“And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved.” (Ephesians 2:1-5)

“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” (Colossians 3:1-3)

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” (1 Peter 2:24)

“Jesus answered them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.’” (John 8:34-36)

“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.” (Titus 2:11-14)
