The Two Responses to Failure

12/7/2003

“Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.”

When I fail (again!) there are two possible ways to respond.

1) The natural response is to feel guilty, angry (I just want to punch a hole in the wall), depressed, or embarrassed.

2) The supernatural response, though, brings salvation with no regret! Through Godly sorrow, I am thankful that my flesh failed because I am glad to discover that I was operating by mySelf instead of through the Spirit. What an awful thought that I might have “succeeded” and continued in my self-deceived state! What student would respond with anger, depression, and embarrassment when shown that there is something important that they have not yet learned? No, a true student (disciple), loves to learn and grow no matter what the method. We are taught by the Master Teacher who longs to lead us through this great adventure. Embrace the training through “failures” and dig in - covered with salvation and with no regret! : )
