Rosh Hashanah

9/26/2003

At sundown today begins Rosh Hashanah, Israel’s “New Year” and the beginning of the Feast of Tabernacles (ending next week, Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement). The New Day, the New Year begins with the Shofar, ram’s horn trumpet declaring the Beginning of something new. Within the first two days of this Feast, it was/is customary for the “outward Jew” to visit a body of water such as a river, a lake, or the sea and throw breadcrumbs onto the water, symbolic of casting one’s sins away. This is known as Tashlich and Israelites, true Israelites without guile, would often read verses from the Prophet Micah as well as various Psalms as they re-Began their Arrangement, their Promises with their God. FOOD for thought, and for Life… Have a superb New Year… 9:43 a.m.
