Success? Failure?
1/21/2022
Joseph, Elijah, Moses, Jesus… name your Guy — they all spent much of their life being “contained” by God in a way that would be considered “failure” or “cursed by God.” So was it really that or was it God directing their path in a way that was not defined as humans define success? God’s favor and man’s success only run a parallel trajectory very rarely!
On the other hand, we have seen so-called human success destroy lives via drunkenness of pride and defensiveness. They prayed little and poorly, and mostly thought of themselves far more highly than justified by anything at all from God’s vantage point. They are gone forever from our midst and from God‘s favor and presence, regardless of whether they die wealthy or “powerful” from a human standpoint or not.
Thought for the evening: Anything good you have or have done is not from you, if God loves you at all and is actually involved with you at all (rather than you just accidentally benefitting from the kindness of God that you tend not to really believe deep inside based on the pride one lives in). God does not measure as men measure. Our attitude needs to reflect the truth when we look in the mirror as well as when we communicate with others, or the end of things will crush those who think otherwise.
