TAKE Up Your Cross

Tis farce that you believe

“feeling good” is the norm

I’m afraid you have been conned

by that deceptive little worm

A sword will pierce your own heart too

This wasn’t just for Mary

Each one of us will feel the pain

Of our own Cross to carry

The skandalon will come to us all

And the temptation to scream and hide

Or to open up our hands

And In Jesus, to abide

TAKE up your cross, oh pilgrim

Trust in God above

Endure the pain He’s sovereignly allowed

And continue on in Love

Put on the full armor of God, oh soldier

Pick up your five smooth rocks

Get out on that battlefield

Down with the giant who mocks!

We all have our Goliaths

Our radio, our pride, our fear

We cast these out like demons

And to His Word, we hold dear

Pain will come to us all

Welcome to the human race

What matters is will you run?

Or will you speak Truth to its face?!
