The Universe Isn't "You-Centric"

2/16/2025

When I’m ever tempted to think “the reason I didn’t get sick the last six times I should’ve is that... I gargle with Listerine or I take supplements and vitamin C or...”

Stomp on that idea. Please. Humans don’t get to do that. Watch it violently and unexpectedly flip if you steal God’s glory.

If God has been kind—it has nothing really to do with supplements or vitamins or anything else humans can take credit for. God is kind. Period.

But sure, take your vitamins, wear your mask, stand on your head 15 minutes every morning, whatever floats your boat.

But, only God is God, and God is good, all of the time. Suiting our wish list and superstitions and academic brilliance isn’t on His “to do list.” He’ll do whatever suits His highest and best. Just keep your eyes on Him. The universe isn’t “you-centric.” It’s Him-centric.

He has pinpointed smaller groups and individuals in the same way for the same reasons (Genesis 12:17, 2 Chronicles 16:12, 26:19, 1 Corinthians 11:30) while at the same time sparing others (Exodus 15:26, Revelation 18:4). He’s also used illness not for discipline, but to get people into the right situations so that he can accomplish his purposes (John 9:3, Galatians 4:14). When has all of it ever been either about superstition or science? I used to give too much credence to such things. “When I was a child, I thought like a child and reasoned like a child” (1 Cor. 13:11). But God is God. All my “reasoning” is going to start from there—and end up there!
