Some Weapons Available to a New Creation
P: A trustworthy saying, worthy of full acceptation: All New Creations are also part animal, and part evil animal. Anyone who does not recognize this fact and is blind to it... is not yet a New Creation. Anyone who makes excuses for the evil animal or ignores this component, or doesn’t care, or makes excuses easily for others... is not yet a New Creation. Being all three is not the Crime. It is just so. Not seeing or caring or passionately crying out for Change IS a Crime.
What are the weapons available to the New Creation to crush the dark animal consistently and daily?
B: One of the weapons: (1 John 1) - walking in the light of transparency and honest-self-assessment with God, ourselves, and other New Creations
J: Prayer, for many situations and people. And choosing attitudes, perspectives, and thoughts of gratitude, are two weapons that came to mind.
LH: Worship and washing in the Word are 2.
P: How does one “do” those two?
LH: Seeing God’s hand at work, or His ways... in your life or someone else’s and taking the time to really tell him thank you or ask for change. Grateful and faith filled discussion with him.
G: Outward focus of caring more about the needs of others than your own
A: It almost seems too obvious to say, but “we put to death the deeds of the evil animal, by the Spirit.” Something about using and trusting that “sixth sense” to see past the loathsome behaviors into the actual solution at the heart level, for ourselves and others, seems relevant. I can’t say I’ve ever done that, but I know it exists because it’s certainly been done to me.
B: Talking to him about it, offering a gift, when resisting temptation and denying the flesh.
A: The New Creation MUST be fed the most... I’ve really really been considering more and more the reality of “Abiding in Christ” and what it means to stay Connected. “Apart from Me you can do NOTHING.” Abiding seems to include dependence, listening, really talking to Him, obedience, 100% affection for Daddy, the Son and His Family and others...
S: The *Power that Raised Jesus from the dead* lives in me and is surely capable of putting to death the misdeeds of the body/evil animal, as I surrender/yield/let-go/fall-back/BELIEVE-Him/Faith
O: Humility and honesty are also weapons.
H: GRATEFULLNESS!! He’s so good to us. Standing on Truth, the rock. There’s really no way around his truth of course if I am honest and it brings me to that wonderful place of falling back in the chair.
D: Abandonment is the way from 1st Adam life to 2nd Adam life... the Covenant that makes us more than just flesh and animal. Believing and standing on that.
LH: “Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:8-9 NIVUK) Really simple but a Real way to crush the animal! For me, that’s slowing down to actually know what pleases the Spirit and not the flesh/animal response (which can seem right in the moment if I’m not careful) of “head down” “getting through” days or temptations. Finding that deeper place to draw strength from. And a lot of that includes Gratitude too!!
M: “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God...” (2Cor 10:5 NIVUK) I was thinking of how confidence in self keeps you a slave to the flesh. Even thinking or acting like you can get through a day without dependence on Jesus necessitates that you rely on that evil animal to get through. So we “demolish every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God.” We see and live in dependence on the Spirit of God and we will not live by that evil animal. Could that be a part of the root too?
D: I’ve not found any amount of will-power or self-discipline to work in killing the animal, outside of the Blood of the Lamb.
P: And “how” do you “do” that?
D: I’ve had times where the animal has been loud and temptation strong and me weak and it all seems unconquerable.
But really abandoning my whole self to the Facts of Who He is and who He has re-made me to be. Knowing that, telling Him, telling the temptations, telling the Animal that the old rules don’t apply to me anymore. I don’t have to live an old covenant life. “You don’t own me anymore.” The New Man is alive in me. My mind can be controlled by the Spirit. That is my Inheritance.
Not just a mind game, but knowing that’s true and telling Jesus that I want Him more than anything else and giving my mind and heart fully to what He says, has seemed to be the door to releasing the Spirit and leaving the old self behind.
LH: His Spirit at work in us seems to be an answer? Letting the Spirit have room to work as we do our part to say “no” to the animal. As new creations His Spirit is a huge weapon we never had before.
A: It seems to me that part of “doing” in regard to the Blood of the Lamb is 1) choosing to be conscious of His Love and understanding that every choice and action can be “living for Him who died for me.” 2) Truly receiving and accepting His Washing Blood on a continual basis satisfies my heart in a way that no longer wants to break His heart through animalistic sin.
L: The accepting Jesus’ washing, choosing to purposefully and whole-heartedly tell Jesus of His greatness and His character and how excellent He is and the act of feeding on His spoken word and pondering and considering does not leave time and room for the animal to express itself. And the less we feed something, the less it can do, which means the more we feed the Spirit life, the more we are saturated there.
J: “At those moments of deepest and darkest trial, KNOW this and embrace it and say it and act like it: “CHRIST DWELLS IN MY HEART *THROUGH FAITH*! I will understand and experience His Power and Life and Love when I BELIEVE He has done it in me ALREADY, because He Himself has “made His home in me.” It is FAITH in spite of what we “see” and “feel” or our “track record” that He is training us to embrace when circumstance and trials point an opposite direction! “THIS is the Victory that overcomes the world: even our FAITH!” You will never “have it” until you “believe it” fully and completely “without wavering, fully persuaded!” (Romans 4).” (from “Overcomers”)
O: And we can do it by picking up our cross daily. For example, denying ourself in opportunities to consider others first, and the enumerable ways to sacrifice ourselves along the way. Not because we’re nice or sacrificial in character (most worldly people can muster that), but because we are vertical in it, and it’s the food and currency of the Kingdom. And we do it continually with eagerness, knowing where out treasure is stored. That’s at least part of what we “do” along the way to keep the animal at bay.
E: “Jesus responded, ’What appears humanly impossible is more than possible with God. For God can do what man cannot.’” Took a snapshot of this yesterday as a reminder. I believe how ‘we’ do it is directly related to letting ‘Him’ work in us. Getting out of the way and staying honest and humble when the animal rises up and letting Him peel off the layers and bring the New Creation in us to the foreground.
W: I read psalm 50 yesterday and this last part was also one of those reminders along the same lines.
“Repent, all of you who forget me, or I will tear you apart, and no one will help you. ***But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me.***If you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God.” (Psalms 50:22-23 NLT)
M: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God - this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:1-2) In a moment of temptation, really look at and deeply know how merciful He has been to me! Then I don’t want to allow that painful, disrespectful, evil animal of flesh to see the light of day.
C: *Why* God would leave residual animal in a New Creation.... Maybe part of the story is testing and preparation: Judges 3:1-4
