Where Reality Is
6/6/2020
M: In case this applies to anyone, thinking about Jesus all the time, knowing his words and thoughts… That only means something if we let go of our will and obey him enthusiastically. Right?
That’s where reality is—letting go of our will for His will, without excuses or fear.
A: Then He said to them all, “If anyone wants to become My follower, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” Luke 9:23. “Thinking about Jesus all the time and knowing His words and thoughts” is what makes this verse real and not just rules or asceticism. Obedience that comes from a heart of love for Him and not just “doing the right thing” is the difference between reality and religion. But as you said, the other is a dead end too. Lofty thoughts of affection or appreciation of Truth without the “rubber meeting the road” of submitting my will to Him in times I REALLY want to go my own way... that just becomes self-deceiving fluff that doesn’t make Him happy and no one is positively affected by it... it bears no Fruit. Bleh!! I’ve been working on some specific ways for my love for Him to be an authentic love as you described because it is too easy to slip into the other and feel like things are ok. So thanks for the spur.
