We Are All Only Debtors

8/9/2025

What we have all been through in the past few years, I think we can have a little bit of sympathy for Moses wanting to “strike the rock”! In our case, it’s a whole drum set of rocks we would be tempted to strike—unless we looked into our own souls and come back with gratitude and compassion and patience. We are all only debtors. While we can’t make everything “turn out right” because everyone gets to make their choices, and our job is only to give them that chance... We can still approach it all with Grace. No striking the drum set of rocks available to us. :)

When Moses struck that rock, with his attitude problem, angry with the people of God, and got self-righteous, which was totally the opposite of the way he had been a few years earlier, that didn’t just happen. That was an attitude that was developed over time as he let certain resentments fester—he heard people responding in a certain way and instead of running to help and to lay his life down, he resented and accused in his heart. That builds up to the point where striking that rock was the obvious conclusion of the overflow of his heart. It totally altered the rest of his life. There was no promised land for this great and mighty man of God who had done many wonderful things. A rich heritage with God, awesome miracles through his hand, and yet, he himself was unable to see come to fruition the whole destiny of his life up to that point. He never saw the end of it. Irreversibly damaged because he let things in his life sneak up on him and momentum built until he made a move that was going to forever alter his future and his family and all the people of God—two million of them or more, at that point were affected by these “little” things that he let sneak up in his life.
