Religion Is an Awful Game

An excerpt from a recording...

It changes from X,Y1 fear of the Lord into Z fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of wisdom and anointing, when we’re fully convinced that all we want in this lifetime is that we have His affection and attention, and we’re not looking for anything for ourselves. When you empty yourself of your need to please yourself, to have fun, to have friends, to go places, do things, have rights, be looked at a certain way, when you empty yourself of all of that, then you’re at the place where God can begin to pour out His grace on you. But as long as you’re trying to have both at the same time, you will be miserable. His yoke and His burden are awful when you try to play both sides of this game. But when you let it all go, you die to yourself, you forfeit your very life, let the seed fall to the ground and die, if you let go of all that, then you will bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be His disciples.

Religion is an awful game. You have to brain-block and numb yourself and not care about anything, or you have to care really hard and make yourself so miserable you can hardly breathe. Religion is an awful place to live because you’re either so stupid, so disconnected that nothing matters, or you’re so enslaved to ideas and a wish list of things that you wish you were or you wish other people were, and judgments and jealousies and all kinds of garbage. It’s a miserable place to live, but the beginning of wisdom is when you abandon all of that into God’s hands.
