Rhema

2/11/2002

...I’m aware of a few verses that speak of the word of God, but don’t know which one is translated, “current” in the Greek or whatever.

Any time the word “RHEMA” (the SPOKEN word, the currently spoken thought) is present, it is often best translated that way since the word is not the word “graphe” (“writings” or “scripture”), and is not the word “logos” (usually the theoretical Word of God, the “picture which speaks a thousand words,” the “logo”—“The Logos became flesh and dwelt for awhile amongst us” (Jn.1:14). It can be something “spoken” but has a larger meaning, in general). “Man does not live by bread alone, but by every WORD (RHEMA—spoken, not theoretical, or general or written) CONTINUALLY proceeding (the Greek tense) from the mouth of God” (Mat.4:4). And, “...the sword of the Spirit, which is the RHEMA of God!” (Eph.6:17). Not “graphe” (“Scriptures”) or “logos” (broad scope of the Word of God), but “rhema” or “voice” of God. The currently spoken Word from the Spirit of God is the SWORD of God.
