Having Minds Tuned to the Frequency of the Spirit of God

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

“Mind” is phroneo, “to direct the mind to something, to seek or strive for.” The word speaks of a deliberate setting of one’s mind upon a certain thing.

If we have our minds tuned to the frequency of the spirit of God - and want to be under the dominance of Life from heaven, not “fun” or man pleasing or appetites or lazy response to the gravitational pull of the flesh and the world, we can actually Know and decide and “keep in step with the spirit” instead of react or decide disconnected from God.

And we have no chance of actually walking in Union with God and his mind if we don’t guard our hearts and minds from...
“I really really want this”
“that would be so fun, this will be so fun”
“I really need this”
“I really deserve this”
“so and so has this and I want it also”
“don’t I look nice”
“Don’t they look nice like I want to (or like I want)”
“I really hate that”
“I’m afraid of”
“it’s not fair”
“why do I always do that?”
“I hate myself”
“I don’t ever want to do that”

... you get the idea. The me me me, I I I, and superlatives or passions regarding this present age and its attraction rather than a knowledge of its molecular decay and uselessness apart from God, will absolutely block any accurate Reception of ABBA’s “frequency.”

I came across a song written from Leah’s perspective (Jacob, Rachel, Leah) called Second Hand Love. It made me think of how Jesus must feel at times when any of us are distracted by the list of “me-centered” things above. One lyric says what I do NOT want to ever hear from Jesus to me: “I wonder what it would be like to get the BEST of you. There’s nothing more that I can do to be the one you’d choose.”
