Shiny Objects

Did you know...

“Shiny objects” are always “radio.”

(“Radio” = our spinning, chattering, analytical noisy thoughts that are not of Christ -- our radio of self-indulgence, self-justification, accusation and judgment, mopey, looping, fantasies, comparison, pride, fears, and more.)

What if next promotion?

What if cool new car?

What if an updated phone or computer?

What if a bigger house?

What if someone else’s shoes, someone else’s clothes?

What if another baby or a husband or wife?

Fill in the blank with your own “shiny object.” Be absolutely assured that if you allow your mind and imagination to run down any of those roads and it puts a smirk on your face, a judgment or comparison in your heart, or the shiny object shows up repeatedly in front of your eyes, in your mind and heart, you have given into satan and sown seeds that will later damage your walk with God.

Shiny objects. Radio.

It is uncanny how often people say, “What?! That’s radio too?!!”

Yes, it is. Stop it. The mind controlled by the Spirit is Life and Peace. You absolutely know without anyone telling you that Jesus cared nothing for shiny objects. Be transfigured into the full measure of the stature of Christ by the Lord, who is the Spirit. (2 Cor. 3:18, Eph. 4:13) Behold Him. Shut down satan’s radio of shiny objects if you want to walk with God in the garden, and hear His whisper, and live His Life. And change the world.

Shiny object... Praise or affirmation or admiration of humans? Celebrity admiration?

Some artistic work you’ve created? A song you’ve written? Your hair? Your body or someone else’s body? A work accomplishment? A program you’ve written? A job you’ve completed? Furniture? House? Fill in the blank. Shiny objects destroy!

We have ripped the past and the future out of GOD’s hands if we get emotionally entangled in fear or guilt, or in desires, in speculations, or commendations or conversations or innovations or observations or celebrations. Let. It. Go.

From C.S. Lewis in 1942: “Nearly all vices are rooted in the future. Gratitude looks to the past and love to the present; fear, avarice, lust, and ambition look ahead.” Avarice = greed for wealth or material gain

I read these verses the other day when the subject of “Shiny Objects” came up. Also, SUPER clear +1 verses...

“We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up. For even Christ did not please Himself but, as it is written: ‘The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.’” (Romans 15:1-3)

Summary: 1) We are not to please ourselves. 2) We are to please and build up others. 3) The Anointed One did not please Himself, but actually got insults instead. 4) So in following our Master, if we ever get ANYTHING more than insults, that is up to Him. How dare we EVER pine for shiny objects. Let this thought dominate our hearts and minds if ever tempted to WANT for ourselves... “For even Christ did not please Himself” (Romans 15:3).
