Does Teaching Come Out of Relationship?

0

It would be very awkward to walk into some room and assume that somebody needs to understand about this or that. It’s like you’re walking around with this plate full of food and it maybe doesn’t need to be served here, or whatever. If you’re not daily walking with brothers and sisters in your area, you may see a lot of things or hear or know about a lot of things, but you’re not going to be able to identify what the need is in order to feed them, to consider what area, what topic, what current thought is on your mind for them if you’re not in their life. If they’re just bouncing in and out of your house, and you’re passing by saying, “Hey, how ya’ doing?” “Fine.” “Fine.”, as you’re taking out the garbage, and all these other things, if you’re not intimately involved in their life, you won’t have anywhere to go. You shoot an arrow out, and hope it’ll find something to hit.

In a gathering where somebody says something that sparks you to want to say something about hope, and to expound upon that somehow, and 10 to 1 there’s somebody else out there who needs to hear about hope, too. But you’ll probably start out in your sphere of relationships, and as things broaden in that way, it’ll touch others and there will be other things. I don’t know how many times I’ve sat down and heard something and how it affected me -- I think we’ve all done that -- and then we’re in somebody else’s house who I know could benefit from that, too. Well, only if you had a relationship.

If your motives were wrong and you want to just be a teacher, you could go and start talking about all these things, but if you knew exactly somebody who could benefit from that too, there is an eagerness. I know there has been in my heart in the past, to go and relay that information, if there seemed to be an appropriate word for them. I guess the foundation of that was you have to have a relationship with the people around you or it’s going to be all bottled up. There’s not going to be anywhere to go. You’re not going to have any thoughts or ideas about what to say to anybody because you don’t know anybody any further than he seems to be doing okay. Or she seems a little quiet today, or whatever, but you never investigate that.
