Go Ahead and Dive In

0

I don’t think there’s anybody in here that doesn’t have any relationships. But to whatever extent you’re lacking in that area, I would still say that you’re better off diving into this whole area than just sitting back and waiting for some glorious relational experience. Now it could be what you find out is that in the process of diving in that you’re more in need than they are. So what? Good. At least we’ve cracked it open, you know? This isn’t trying to create some sort of pecking order or caste system of who’s the better. It’s not like that. It’s just simply based on the premise that man cannot live by bread alone. They can’t and I can’t either. I may very well learn more from them than they did from me. But so what? Let’s at least get in and work it and find out.

While certainly relationships are the windows that allow us to see what the needs are best, it’s still better to go forward than to sit back, because relationships can come the other way, too. Somehow in the midst of being centered around the Word of God, relationships can be built. As we begin to confess our sins one to another, and as we admit, “Hey, I have to say that while we are here talking about prayer, I’ve had whole months of my life where I wasn’t in very good communion with God.” “You have?” “Yes, I have to admit it. I’m not bragging about it. It makes me sick to think about it. What a fool I was to think that I could get along without God’s help. I just don’t want that to happen to you.” Somehow in the process of being real people, not expositors, relationships will build that way, too. Relationships can go both ways. It’s either the window in, or it’s the product of, it can happen either way.
