A Thought About The Ten Virgins
6/2/2022
Reading Matthew 25:1-13 this time, I realized: the five virgins whose lamps were aflame for awhile but didn’t have Oil to keep them burning—the Bridegroom said He had *never* known them. He didn’t say, “Oh, my dear and devoted virgins, go and get some more oil, and then come on in!” Even being virgins (pure and unspotted by the world) and having lamps aflame and going together to the wedding banquet—they had never known Him to begin with. It was only religion that they knew—and so the Bridegroom called them out.
So what resonated with me was: there is no such thing as a Christian who doesn’t have both the Lamp of the Spirit aflame AND the personal store of Oil to keep it burning. I lived for 11+ years as a foolish virgin so I am not teaching anything. But I want to help tend our Lamps, like the five True Virgins, so we can ALL go in together to the Wedding Banquet. —MB
